As You Like It - A Comedy by William Shakespeare
Girls falling in love with boys played by girls, boys falling in love with girls played by boys played by girls...
Switzerland in the 21st century seems the ideal romantic place to be. Cows grazing, shepherds watching their flocks... if it wasn't for all the trials and tribulations of modern life! As Rosalind is banished from her uncle's court, she finds exile in the forest of Arden, dressed up as a young fellow by the name of Ganymede, accompanied by her cousin and friend Celia and the court's fool Touchstone. Meanwhile, our male protagonist Orlando is both denied his birthright by his jealous brother Oliver and forced to flee from Duke Frederick.
Very early in the play, our leading lady and man fall in love at first sight. Later on Rosalind, disguised as Ganymede, instructs Orlando in the ways of love. What follows is an elaborate scheme devised by the cross-dressing Rosalind to find out the verity of Orlando's supposed passion for her, and to further capture his heart through the witty and mischievous façade of Ganymede.
Can our leading lady eventually drop her male attitude and marry the guy she's been spying on "in male apparel"? Will the shepherds' attitude towards the people from court change? Join our urban hipsters in exile on their journey through the countryside, meet shepherds and fools, listen to their heated conversations on a range of established topics, from the relative merits of life at court versus life in the country to the relationship between nature and art.
