"We‘re talking about somebody‘s life here. I mean, we can‘t decide in five minutes. Suppose we‘re wrong?"

Twelve people in a locked room debate whether or not a young man has killed his father. They argue. They fight. Students of the English Department of the University of Berne show 12, an adaptation of the play ‚Twelve Angry Men‘ by Reginald Rose, introducing women into the already explosive equation of prejudice, violence and impatience. When one juror stands alone against the others, trying to convince them that the case is not as clear cut as it seems, questions are raised that have lost none of the immediacy they had fifty years ago. Which crimes deserve the death penalty? Who has the right to sentence another person to death? What does reasonable doubt mean? Can twelve people, as different as these, ever reach a unanimous decision?
