1. Approval of last minutes
The minutes of the last General Assembly (December 18, 2006) are approved by all.
2. Annual Report
Angela encourages students to hand in their own project proposals and gives an overview of Arts Council sponsored events in 2007:
- One Act Play Evening organised by Lukas Hunziker on January 22 and 24.
- “Hoffman project” organised by Simon on January 23 and 24, co-sponsored with the chemistry department.
- Film Club: “Americans Abroad” organised by Matt and Sam in summer term.
- “Murder Mystery Play” organised by Tanja Willi on June 7 and 8.
- Improvisation Workshop organised by Cindy-Jane Armbruster.
- Promotion Concert for the Arts Council organised by Angela Kummer and Regula Koenig on October 5.
- Film Club: “Audrey Hepburn” organised by Sandro, Anne and Sabrina in autumn term.
- Creative Writing Workshop with Roselle Angwyn organised by Simon.
- One Act Play Evening organised by Cécile Huber on December 19.
All in all, the events in 2007 were meant to promote the Arts Council further and to make it better known to students. The committee feels that this goal has been reached, although most of the sponsored events were not as well attended as expected.
Other projects that occupied the Arts Council throughout the year:
- Website: Cindy-Jane, who is responsible for the Arts Council’s website, has done a tremendous amount of work in reconstructing the Arts Council’s history and putting an archive of events online. She is still working on this project and will continue to keep the website up to date. Angela thanks Cindy for her work in the name of the Arts Council.
- Also, there is now an inventory online with information on costumes and props which are stored in the cellar. This should make it easier for students to see what costumes/props are available to them for future theatre productions.
3. (Re-) Elections
Old Members: Angela Kummer (chair), Tanja Willi (treasurer), Regula Koenig (secretary), Cindy-Jane Armbruster (website) and Alexandra de Peyer (inventory).
New Members: Franz Andres Morrissey (department representative), Christiane Schlote (department representative) and Sandro Illg (Film Club).
Angela thanks the new department representatives for joining the Arts Council committee and then asks the general assembly to approve the members. All members are approved in their respective offices.
Since at least four members of the Arts Council will leave at the end of spring term, the committee is looking for new members, especially a new secretary, PR-person and chair. Angela asks students to make this fact known to others who might be interested in joining he Arts Council. Also, students are welcome to attend our next meeting (the date and time will be posted on our website). If students are interested, they should have a look at our website: www.artscouncil-berne.ch or send an e-mail to the committee: artscouncil.bern@gmail.com.
4. Finances
Tanja Willi presents the finances and the final account of 2007. She also reports that the two auditors have approved the finances. Tanja reminds the assembly that the events in 2007 have not made much profit and that projects, which are not promoted well enough or organised well ahead of the performances, are more at risk of losing money. In the future, projects should be more carefully planned and better promoted.
Despite a loss of money, the assembly approves the finances.
5. Forthcoming Projects
The committee informs the assembly about forthcoming events:
- “Oleanna” organised by Cindy-Jane Armbruster on March 10 at 8 p.m. The International Theatre Stuttgart performs “Oleanna”, a play by David Mamet. It will take place in room F 023 and there will be a Q&A session afterwards. Students of the English Department pay reduced ticket prices and there will be free drinks.
-
Film Club: “How Music Ate the Movie”. Alexander Sigrist and Sandro Ilg are responsible for this term’s programme and would like to invite students to the film showings every second Thursday at 6.15 p.m. in room F 022.
One of the students attending the meeting points out that the last film (“Hairspray”) is currently scheduled to take place at the same time as Professor Watts’s farewell lecture. Sandro promises to change that date and to keep students informed about the new date via posters in the department and the website. - “As You Like It” organised by Eva Grädel and Julia Gwerder. The performances will take place on May 15, 16 and 17. About thirty people are involved in the production of this play by William Shakespeare, which will be performed in the Mappamondo Saal. Julia informs the assembly that EVERYONE is asked to attend!
- Photo Exhibition organised by Lukas Etter. The vernissage will be on March 17 at 4.15 p.m. in the English department (including a small apéros). The photos will remain in the department until the end of the spring term and can be bought from Lukas Etter.
- Since next year is the 111th anniversary of the English Department and the 11th anniversary of the Arts Council, students are warmly invited to submit interesting projects and to come up with exciting ideas for events which the Arts Council could sponsor.
6. AOB
As there is no other business, Angela thanks everyone for attending the meeting and gives the floor to Sandro Ilg and Julia Gwerder who are performing a short sketch by Franz Andres-Morrissey for our entertainment. =)
