3. Annual Report by the Chairperson
The year 2004 was rather quiet as far as the Arts Council is concerned. There were only very few projects that sought financial support by the Arts Council. However, the board would like to use the money of the Arts Council. We would like to invest it into new cultural events that are organised at the English department.
Last year we supported the following events:
- Readings by famous authors
- The charity play "The Vagina Monologues"
- The fare well party of Dewi Williams and Pierre-Eric Monnin
- English Deparment Film Club which has started recently
Nevertheless, the Arts Council could do more. We had to notice that the interest in rganising cultural events has decreased. To make the Arts Council more known, we are planning to get our new website online.
In the past year we also reformed the internal structures of the AC. Some people thought that the way we decide is somewhat nebulous and not transparent. First, we completely revised the directives. Since last April, we have the new directives, which clearly name the requirements for a project submission.
We also planned to present the new statutes at this meeting. But we have still some legal problems that need to be solved, and, the Swiss parliament has recently changed the legislation for association, and therefore, we wait another year.
To conclude, the most important thing is that the AC becomes more visible and that all students of the English department know that it exists.
4. Finances
Below you can find the annual report by the treasurer (Priya):
The decharge was approved.
In the future Tanja Willi will be responsible for the money and the account of the Arts Council. She will take over from Sripriya Sitaraman. Thank you Priya for all your work.
5. Election
All the members of the Arts Council board are reelected.
6. Future Projects
The film club of the English department has started recently. Movies will be shown troughout the summer semester.
The performances of John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi will take place from the 18th May - 21st May at the Reitschule in Bern (Tojo).
